They say your eyes are the windows to your soul. If that’s the case, your eyebrows are the curtains, or the ratty blinds that came with your apartment, and they require your attention.
For many guys, the thought of eyebrow grooming sounds painful, unnecessary, and a little 'girly'. First of all, you clearly care a little bit about your image or you wouldn’t be on this site, but just a reminder, there’s nothing 'girly' about grooming. And if you’re trying to impress someone, you should know that the eyes are one of the first things they’ll notice about you. Second, yes grooming your brows may be a little painful. I’m not even going to lie about that, but so is leg day, but that doesn’t mean you should skip it, right? But lastly, eyebrow grooming is only necessary for some.
- If your brows are connected like Siamese twins, you need to groom them.
- If your brows look like distant cousins instead of brothers, you need to groom them.
- If one of your brows is doing The Rock eyebrow raise while the other is lying there like Mufasa after the stampede, okay, you get the point.
Your brows, like your hairline, should be even. And, your brows, like Avant sang, should be separated. And if your brows have that Peter Gallagher thing going where they are on the bushy side, a little snip snip wouldn’t hurt.
So should you wax, pluck, razor or thread your brows to whip them into shape?
The name of the game when grooming your brows is less is more.
First, you should leave your brows to the professionals. Unlike when you try cutting your hair yourself and mess up, you can’t fix brows by just shaving them off and wearing a hat everywhere for two to three weeks while they grow back. If you mess up your brows, there’s no hiding it unless you want to make like Sister Mary Clarence and go into a convent with the nuns.
Second, never wax. Guys have thicker facial hair than women, so when we wax the hair on our face, brows included, it’s going to look dramatic and unnatural.
Threading is my favorite way to groom my brows. Threading is a simple process that is often considered to be one of the most painless and safest options for shaping brows. After wiping the eyebrow area clean with alcohol, the practitioner uses a thread to twist and pull along the areas of unwanted hair lifting the hair follicle directly from the root without the use of any chemicals or unnecessary tugging on delicate skin. If you have breakout prone skin, you know you don’t want any unnecessary chemicals on your face. And because the specialist is using a single piece of thread, she or he has greater control over what hairs get removed and he can pull from the root meaning you won’t have to do it again for a while – unlike waxing or tweezing.
Just like finding a great barber, do your research, talk to friends, ask questions and discuss what you're looking for. And soon, you'll be able to put your caveman days behind you.
